Eye Exams

First and foremost, you need to have at least one eye exam per year. The eye doctor, or ophthalmologist, will check your vision to see if you need glasses. The ophthalmologist will also inspect for other diseases that manifest themselves by changes in the eyes. Your eyes aren’t only the window to your soul; they’re the window to your health.

Changes In The Older Eye

As a matter of fact, like your skin, your hair, and your joints change with age, your eyes also change as you get older. Some of the major eye problems that come on with aging are presbyopia, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Some of these conditions can be cured and some cannot. Good eye care can minimize the effects of some conditions.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia is popularly called far-sightedness. If you’re at the age of 60, you’ve probably had presbyopia for 15 to 20 years already. The condition is a normal effect of aging, and it’s easily managed by making changes to your eyeglass or contact lens prescription. If you already wear eyeglasses for near-sightedness, you may require to wear bifocals or to get a second pair of glasses for close work.

Cataracts

It’s been reported that about half of all 65-year-old Americans have some stage of cataracts formed in their eyes. The developed cataracts are now considered a normal consequence of aging. Widely performed cataract surgery is the accepted care for cataract formation. Cataracts are the best handled with before they advance too far, so talk to your ophthalmologist immediately as you notice changes in your vision. Don’t avoid your eye care.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Experts have assessed that 40% of diabetics over age 40 have some degree of diabetic retinopathy. The disease causes new blood vessels to grow over the retina, and form scar tissue, pulling the retina away from the back of the eye. Untreated, diabetic retinopathy can lead to sightlessness.

The Importance Of Eye care Over 60

Looking at the different eye conditions that people face after they reach the age of 60 illustrates how important eye care is, and how a vital part of good eye care is seeing your ophthalmologist regularly. Arthritis Medicine for Dogs

When it comes to arthritis medicine for dogs there are a few things to look out for!

Have you noticed lately how your dog is getting a little enthusiastic doing the normal things he does everyday? Have you observed how reluctant he is to catch that stick you just threw? If you’re very particular about your dog’s health, you might be hearing some clicks in his joints as he walks.

You might have observed that he’s jumping a little lower this time and he sometimes moan as if he’s suffering from excruciating pain. If so, then, there’s a chance your buddy is suffering from arthritis. But as a dog lover as you are, you will immediately find a solution for it and sure enough, there is and it’s Arthogen for dogs.

Just like humans, arthritis in dogs can come in many different types, osteoarthritis as being the most common.

For some ordinary people, this might sound so odd, so bizarre, so “overkill”. A medicine for arthritis in dogs? But for an unofficial official dog lover like you or a lover of pets in general, this is one of the most appropriate things to do to show love and concern for these animals and the Humane Society will surely nod its head in approval.

So, what is osteoarthritis in what causes it? According to experts especially those caring veterinarians, when the cartilage in joints that act as buffers between bones deteriorates, it can be very painful for the dog.

This is usually the result of an injury to a limb. Also, the common cause of this dog’s predicament are usually diseases of hip and elbow dysphasia and other bone problems of large and fast-growing dogs but little ones are not exempted. But because dogs, even little ones, tend to be hyperactive and always on the go, in general, dogs can be hapless victims of arthritis and other bone-related diseases or ailments.

In the U.S. alone, an estimated 20% of the total population of dogs suffers from arthritis, big or small, young or old. Luckily for these poor animals, the Humane Society, veterinarians and other concerned groups are doing what they can do save these pets from health problems.

So, what is the best remedy for arthritis in dogs? As what have said earlier, Arthogen can be the best option to eradicate arthritis from your beloved buddy. Arthogen is formulated scientifically to combat arthritis. It contains a complete, nutritious and highly effective solution that provide the best and necessary mineral and nutrients needed by your pet and they come in many flavors that you dog will surely love. But, is it the only remedy for these poor fellas? Are there any other solutions for easing or totally getting rid of arthritis in dogs? Yes, there may be other remedies for it but the best so far is Arthogen and it’s the best choice that you’re going to have.

In conclusion, when you see that your dog is limping, running slowly, always moaning of pains in the limbs, you can either give him some first aid which you may learn in the future or if you want to give him the best in all the world, give him Arthogen for dogs and he will give you an approving “woof!” for it.

What are Bifocals and Where to Buy Bifocals Lenses and Frames

What are Bifocals and Where to Buy Bifocals Lenses and Frames?

Find out more on bifocals by going to our website

For year’s people who had both nearsightedness and farsightedness had to suffer with eyeglasses that had thick lenses with a line across them. Not only were the glasses heavy but the frames for glasses in general were to say the least, unattractive. The other problem with the bifocal lenses was adjusting to them. You either have to look up or look down especially going downstairs. People often experience dizziness while adapting to the bifocal lenses.

For years people who needed bifocal lenses had only one choice, eyeglasses. Even when contact lenses came on the market, bifocals still could only be had in eyeglasses. That was then and this is now. Now contact lenses offer as many choices if not more choices than for those who wear eyeglasses. Now to the joy of many, there are bifocal contact lenses available. Bifocal contact lenses are available in soft, rigid, gas permeable materials.

Who needs to use bifocal lenses? People who have trouble focusing on objects that are near. They suffer with something called Presbyopia. This doesn’t usually develop after age 40.

There are various types of lenses and they are described below.

  • Alternating design- these are similar to bifocal glasses, half the lens has distance powers and the other half has powers for near objects.
  • Simultaneous Design-these lenses try to blend the powers of both distant and near sight prescriptions, they fill in the pupil area. Your eyes adapt and learn to interpret the circle power choice depending on how close or far you are looking.
  • Concentric Design-These are the radial of contact lenses. The lens works on near vision while outer part works on distant vision correction or vice versa.
  • Translating Design- these are also very similar to bifocal eyeglasses, the distance correction is above the near correction. A line separates the lenses. The lens is flat on the bottom to keep it from moving around in your eye when you blink.
  • Asferic Design-Distant and near vision are located at the center of the lens. Near correction is at the center while distance correction surrounds it. They can be reversed in some situations. The doctor will help you decide that.
  • Mono-vision Design-You wear one power lens in one eye and the other in the other eye. Distance vision is usually worn in the dominant eye. Again your doctor will be able to determine this with an examination.

There are also simultaneous vision contact lenses. These lenses allow the eyes to focus on both near and far objects at the same time. Near and distant correction is in concentric rings. Since the distant and near parts of the lens are in sight all the time light from both distant and near objects can be focused on at the same time.

There is a problem with simultaneous vision lenses. While the eye is seeing through the lens some light from distant objects will go through the near vision, and the light from near objects will go through the distant part of the lens. The eye takes both in focus and out of focus at the same time. It is up to the brain to figure out which is the desired image.

Contact lenses whether bifocal or not can only be obtained with a prescription. Through a comprehensive examination your eye doctor will determine whether you are a candidate for bifocal contact lenses and what specific type might be right for you. As with any contact lens there is an adjustment period and it might take more than one try before you get lenses that are the right fit and comfortable for you.

The reality though is that bifocal contact lenses may not be for you, at least in the contact lenses that are now available. Don’t give up. If you really want contact lenses and you need bifocals, do your research and keep up to date on the types of lenses available for you.

If you want to try contact lenses some companies have free trial periods of up to a week for you to try the lenses and see how you like them. There are resources available online, through your eye care physician, and in some cases right from the manufacturer. There are discount contact lens sites and some manufacturers offer coupons to you for trying them out. Your budget will undoubtedly play a part in your decision about bifocal contact lenses.

Ask friends or family members who have contact lenses what their experience has been like for them. Of course, not everyone has the same experience but in general, the information could help you and your physician make a determination.

Bifocal contact lenses are available for people with astigmatism. Toric contact lenses in particular come in both colors and disposable types. Consult with your eye care professional, as some professionals are not comfortable with fitting Toric lenses.

Essential Oils for Babies

Essential Oils for Babies

Essential Oils for Babies by Oil Logic

Aromatherapy for babies is not widely practiced in present times but latest studies have shown that it can have excellent effects on the health of your baby. Common problems can be helped by incorporating aromatherapy oils in your child’s life. If performed regularly, your baby can get relief of sleeping problems, colds, coughs, rashes, etc.

These oils can be administered to your baby in different ways:

– Bathing your baby with a few drops of essential oils.

– Installing an oil diffuser that perfumes the surrounding air.

– You may also give your baby frequent massages which is possibly the best way to provide aromatherapy. Please note you should never apply essential oils neat to the skin. Always dilute them in carrier oil such as almond or jojoba.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind before you employ aromatherapy on your baby.

1) It is very important not to take aromatherapy oils internally, especially so for a baby. Whilst some oils may be safe to ingest it is largely unknown what the body’s response will be so it is best to avoid the circumstances.

2) The oils should be kept at a considerably safe distance away from the eyes, as they are very sensitive and there can be adverse effects if they are brought too close to the oils. If diluted oils do enter the eyes, flush out immediately with warm water.

3) If you have chosen to provide aromatherapy to your baby by way of massage, it is advisable to perform a patch test a few days before to see if there are any adverse reactions on the skin. Perform the test by applying a drop of the oil diluted in a carrier oil, that you intend to use on the inner elbow. This should be left on for forty eight hours and if there is no reaction, you may proceed to give the full massage as the oil is considered quite safe for your baby’s skin. However, if there is any kind of redness, itching or swelling, you should not use the oil.

4) As mentioned previously, essential oils are not to be used neat. They are to be diluted instead with a carrier oil and then applied to the baby’s skin. This dilution should be done in a suitable ratio. The ideal ratio for mixing is to pour in one drop of essential oil to ten mils of carrier oil. Also ensure you use oils labelled ‘essential oils’ rather than ‘fragrant oils‘ as these are synthetic replicas and aren’t suitable for use.

5) The following is a list of the oils that are suitable for babies along with their specific functions. Any oils that are more potent than these should be avoided:

– For colds, eucalyptus oil (but only for children aged over 3 months)

– For cases of skin rashes, eczema, etc chamomile should be employed.

– Lavender oil is the best choice to soothe and lull your child to sleep and for general skin care.

– For problems related to the digestive system, fennel oil or peppermint oil can be used

While the dog provides us with many pleasures and happiness through the years they have one thing in common with us. They are getting older with each year and will need pain relief, just like we do. Natural treatments for pain relief for your canine are probably the best option. There are no side effects and your canine can continue to do their daily activities

Prescribed canine pain relief such as antibiotics will help temporarily relieve pain, but the side effects may cause damage to the joints and other parts of your dog’s body such as the kidneys, stomach and digestive system.

Natural Canine Pain Relief Treatments

The most common natural pain relief for dogs is acupuncture, just the same as we get as humans. Acupuncture pain relief works with your dog’s immune system to boost and stimulate it from within in order to ease the pain.

You must understand if you decide to use acupuncture for pain relief for you dog, this will not happen in one session and you must plan on more than one session and possibly some herbal pain relief to go along with the acupuncture. The herbal pain relief will complement the acupuncture therapy.

Other natural canine pain relief is: herbal Glucosamine blend, which is administered to humans who suffer from arthritis pain. Vitamins B1, B2, B6, MSM, as well as vitamin C.

Another Helpful Tip

Canine pain relief can be eased by exercise and a balanced diet to keep the muscles and bones strong. Regular check ups at the vet will warn you if you need a special diet or add vitamins to the dog’s diet to avoid putting your dog in pain at all.

Every stage in your dog’s life is the same as in humans. It requires special care and treatment. Your vet can guide you to what is necessary. If your animal does require some type of canine pain relief, your vet will know what to do at the different age and stages in your animal’s life.

Health Using Essential Oils Plus Essential Oils for Babies

Health Using Essential Oils Plus Essential Oils for Babies

Essential oils are a great way to take care of yourself naturally but they do need to be used correctly to prevent causing any damage. Essential oils for babies by Oil Logic provides safe oils for your precious loves ones.

I’m not trying to scare you away from using them just want you to understand that if not used correctly they can cause you great harm. When they are used correctly they help many different conditions naturally. Here is a list of general safety guidelines:

– Never apply them directly to the skin without diluting it in a base oil first. The only ones that are safe to apply neat to the skin are lavender and tea tree.

– Make sure that you research any oil before you use it. Some may not be safe to use because of health conditions that you may have. For example if you have high blood pressure you need to avoid using rosemary essential oil.

– Do not use internally. Some are toxic if taken internally.

– Patch test any oil before you use it. This can be done simply by placing a drop of oil in a few drops of base oil and applying to the wrist and leaving there for a few hours. If irritation occurs rinse the area well with milk or water. With any mild irritation you may be able to still use the oil as long as it is well diluted and if the irritation is more than mild you may want to avoid using the essential oil all together.

– Some oils need to be used in moderation to prevent toxic levels from building up in the body. Some oils take longer to go through the body and some of these essential oils can become toxic if too much builds but in the body. In researching oil you will know if the essential oil needs to be used in moderation.

– Some oils by cause photo toxicity, which may cause your skin to become more sensitive to sunlight or tanning beds. Many citrus oils can cause this to happen, so use caution applying these oils right before exposure to sunlight or tanning beds.

– Use extreme caution when using essential oils on babies and children. On babies under a year only a few oils are safe to use, lavender and roman chamomile are two of them. For infants up to the age of five make sure the oils are well diluted, use only about a quarter of what you would for yourself. The easiest way to do this is to use four times the normal amount of base oil. For children 6 to 12 dilute the oil in twice the normal amount of base oil.

– During pregnancy dilute the oil in twice the normal amount of base oil. There are also some oils that should be avoided completely during pregnancy and others should be avoided at certain times. In researching the oils you will know if they are safe to use during pregnancy.

– Not all oils can be used with homeopathic treatments because they reduce the effectiveness of the homeopathic remedy.

– Always store essential oils in a cool, dark, dry area in well sealed bottles, since they are very volatile and will lose their effectiveness if not stored properly.

These are just the basic safety guidelines for using essential oils, some essential oils themselves may have safety guidelines that should be followed. You will know what these guidelines are once you have researched the essential oil.

Essential Oils for Babies by Oil Logic

Essential Oils for Babies

Safety with essential oils is extremely important especially when it comes to babies. For a full and complete and safe range of essential oils for babies, contact Oil Logic today.

The List below, provides only a few essential oils contraindications for pure, therapeutic grade essential oils. However, the list below is no substitute for

  • consulting With your doctor
  • studing essential oil reference material
  • using common sense!

Here’s the list of Essential Oils Contraindications that I have drawn up, based on research my doctor and I have done.

Adulterated Oils – Be especially careful with cajeput (Melaleuca leucadendro), lavandin, lavender, and pine.

Anti-coagulant Medications – The essential oils of clove, ginger, and wintergreen may enhance the effects of Warfarin, aspirin, etc.

Blood Pressure, High – Avoid rosemary and sage essential oils.

Blood Pressure, Low – Use ylang ylang sparingly.

Burns – Avoid using lavandin. Instead use lavender. Caution: True lavender is often extended with a hybrid lavender or with synthetic linalol and linalyl acetate. You do not want this on burns!

Children – Do not use peppermint essential oil on any child under the age of 18 months. Do not use rosemary essential oil on any child under the age of 4 years.

Epilepsy – Do not use the essential oils of basil, fennel, hyssop, sage, tarragon, or wintergreen.

Inhaling Directly from Bottle or Diffuser – Doing this with cassia, thyme, or oregano may irritate the nasal membranes.

Peppermint – Avoid contact with eyes, mucus membranes, sensitive skin, or fresh wounds or burns.

Pregnancy – Avoid Idaho tansy. Consult with your physician before using copaiba or palo santo.

Skin, Applying Neat – Cumin should be diluted first. Oregano and thyme should be avoided. (But see my comments below.)

Sunlight or UV Exposure – Avoid applying certain essential oils to skin that will be exposed to sunlight or UV light within 12 hours (cumin), 24 hours (grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, orange), 36 hours (bergamont), or 48 hours (lime).

About Oregano and Thyme
Take caution in applying oregano and thyme directly on the skin, there are two very important exceptions.

1. In Raindrop Technique, both oregano and thyme are to be applied neat to the feet and to the spine. Sometimes in Raindrop Technique, these two oils can become hot to the skin around the spine, but this is quickly remedied by applying V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex to the area.

2. Many essential oil users apply oregano and thyme oils to the soles of the feet. I have never known of anyone having a difficulty with applying oregano and thyme oils to the soles of the feet. The constituents of these two oils have such powerful anti-viral qualities that they’re in the first aid kit of most serious oil users.

I encourage you to study and learn about essential oils contraindications, and to use only pure, therapeutic grade essential oils.

Consult With Your Doctor about Essential Oils Contraindications
Even with this high quality, it is smart to consult with your doctor. When you do this, you will want to have your reference material in hand, because if you live in the United States, it is likely that your doctor lacks knowledge about the medicinal benefits of therapeutic grade essential oils. It’s also likely that he will not be interested in learning about this topic, in which case you may end up doing what most of us do – educating yourself and then listening to your inner guidance.

If you are so lucky as to have a doctor who uses essential oils for babies in their practice, consider yourself quite fortunate! Contact Oil Logic today.

The Laser Agent - The Laser Online

The Laser Online

The term laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. In this article we talk about the different types provided by The Laser Agent.

Without getting too technical- this basically means that light source is specially focused into a very intense beam and is usually coherent, meaning it is reduced to a very particular wavelength of the light spectrum and is controlled to “vibrate” in only one plane. Some laser light is visible to the naked eye and some is in a part of the spectrum that can not be seen visually.

So, where and how does this focused light technology come into play in the field of dermatology and more specifically cosmetic dermatology? All lasers, regardless of type or wavelength, basically cause some form of localized heating to occur when applied to the skin.

The trained laser dermatologist makes use of this epidermal or dermal heating effect to achieve a desired outcome. Some procedures may literally be designed to burn away a small portion of the layer of skin, while other procedures may be designed to cause some heating and slight burning of the skin layers with the intent to cause healing to take place which in turn causes new skin growth and a tightening effect.

Lasers are also used to burn away undesirable growths such as tumors or moles and also to remove items such as tattoos or scars. Some of the most common dermatological lasers and their common applications are listed below.

Each laser has a particular wavelength of light, a variety of beam focus and pulsing options and a variety of intensities allowing minor heating to major burning capabilities.

The skill of the laser dermatologist is the key to a good laser outcome as the highly trained physician will understand how to apply the right laser in the right intensity to gain the desired outcome.

1450 nm diode Laser: This is a deeply penetrating laser that is very effective for treating acne and wrinkles. Typically, no recovery time is needed after treatment. The 1450 diode can even clear the most stubborn cystic acne on the face, back, and chest. This particular wavelength will also improve older and deeper acne scars.

CO2 High Intensity Super Pulse Laser: This is a very powerful laser generally used for skin tumors and skin cancer removal.

CO2 Silktouch Laser: A stronger resurfacing laser usually used for severe wrinkles.

Erbium 294 Yag Laser: This is a fast healing resurfacing instrument used for wrinkles, scars, and tumors. There is a new Erbium version called microerbium for fractional resurfacing with no down time recovery.

Fractionated CO2 Laser: This is a newer CO2 technology targeted for use in removing acne scars, wrinkles, surgical and trauma scars.

Long Pulse Alexandrite Laser: This version laser is most often used for hair removal on individuals with olive complexions.

Long Pulse Dye Laser W/ Cooling: This version laser is most often used for vascular lesions, stretch marks, scar revision, skin rejuvenation, acne treatments, and acne scars.

Long Pulse Ruby Laser: This instrument is most often used for hair removal on fair skinned individuals.

Long Pulse Yag Laser: This instrument is used for removal of unwanted hair on dark skinned individuals and also removal of leg veins, and general skin tightening. Also used for removal of fine hair.

Photo-Dynamic Therapy (PDT): PDT involves a chemical application that is applied to the skin prior to laser treatment for active acne and is also used to augment skin rejuvenation.

PhotoMedex XTRAC Excimer Laser: This instrument is most often used for treating psoriasis and vitiliago.

Q-Switch Ruby Laser: This is the most powerful laser for tattoo and birthmark removal and pigmented lesion treatment.

Q-Switch Yag Laser: This instrument is a common choice for tattoo removal, pigmented lesion treatments, acne scar removal, and general skin rejuvenation.

Q-Switch Yag 5 Laser: This laser is popular for skin rejuvenation, pigmented lesions, and removing tattoos that contain color.

Radio frequency Laser: This instrument is commonly used for non-surgical face lift and skin tightening. The procedure is an advanced way to tighten skin with the touch of a sophisticated computerized treatment tip to the skin. It requires no incisions and no recovery time. Excellent results can often be seen with just one treatment.

Short and Long Pulse Flashlamp Dye Laser: This instrument is most often used for vascular lesions, stretch marks, scar revision, skin rejuvenation, acne treatments, and removal of acne scars.

These are some of the more common dermatological lasers and their common applications. Some laser dermatologists will own and operate several of these instruments while some clinics may only own one or two particular lasers. It is really up the preference of the laser physician and what tools they feel they need to do the procedures that are the forte of their particular practice.

Lasers have helped open up a whole new field of skin treatments and have also helped to make previously performed procedures faster and often less painful with much shorter recovery times and decreased chance of complications.

Treating Warts – Where to Start

The best wart treatment depends on the severity of the warts, as well as the person who has the disease. Plantar warts and common warts can usually be treated with over the counter solutions. The problem with over the counter wart removal solutions is that some are not as effective as prescription medications. It also helps if you have the best dermatologist in NJ – Dr. Jay Geller

However, if the problem is not too severe, an over the counter solution is most likely best for you. In order to keep the situation under control, you must understand that warts are highly contagious. You must not touch or scratch them or spreading can occur. Keep your hands very clean during an outbreak, especially if you are one who prepares food for your family, or generally comes in physical contact with other on a daily basis.

Wartrol is an over the counter wart removal solution that contains ingredients that are proven to help eliminate warts. It is commonly used for plantar wart removal, common, and genital wart removal. It works best on plantar and common warts, although it is best to see a doctor first if you suspect you have warts, and let them decide whether or not you should use an over the counter wart treatment like wartrol, or if a prescription wart treatment is needed.

In some cases, warts can lead to cancer if ignored. HPV is almost always the cause of cervical cancer, but most HPV infections in younger women are temporary and are gone within a year or two. Freezing (cryotherapy) is also one of the best warts treatments available today.

There are also HPV vaccines ( Gardasil and Cervarix) that can help prevent the HPV virus. 90% of the cases in men can be treated with an over the counter wart treatment.

These measures can be vital in preventing more serious situations that would require surgery. Prevention is best when talking about any type of STD, but mistakes do happen. When these mistakes happen, we must be cautionary and learn why we were infected and prevent others from getting infected.

When an over the counter solution is what you have decided upon, there can also be an issue of privacy. Honestly, who wants to go to CVS and ask the person behind the counter about wart medication? I know I sure wouldn’t! Thankfully we have the internet now, and private matters such as std treatments can be handled at home in private.
